Physicist
John Sweet, PhD, was a physicist in graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania when he learned of a post-doctoral fellowship in medical physics at Thomas Jefferson University. He was intrigued by the idea of applying his knowledge in a way that helped sick people. He completed the fellowship and joined the faculty, where he stayed for 10 years. Now he is enjoying being part of a new radiation oncology center with state-of-the-art technology. “It’s exciting to oversee the entire process and be sure the patient is getting what the physician intended. And it’s gratifying to deliver it with fewer side effects. It makes me want to come to work each day.”
John spends much of his time keeping up with the ever-changing technology. In his spare time, he is teaching himself computer programming.
