Bala Cynwyd, Pa, September 25, 2009–It was a day of celebration for all who attended the Philadelphia Cancer Treatment Radiation Oncology Center Workout Against Cancer on September 25. Cancer survivors told stories of resilience and gratitude, people toured the new state-of-the-art center specializing in prostate and bladder cancer, and Urologic Consultants of Southeastern Pennsylvania gave Prostate Health International’s Run 4 Your Life an early boost with a $3,000 contribution.
“Our goal for the day was to increase awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of early detection,” says doctor Phillip Ginsberg, urologist and co-founder of the Center. We are pleased with the number of men who came out on a beautiful afternoon and took advantage of free prostate cancer screenings and information. One in six men will develop prostate cancer, so it’s important to discuss your risk and the benefits of screening with your doctor.”
An estimated 200 people attended and 30 men underwent prostate cancer screenings that day. They also listened to talks on cancer prevention and treatment, including the role of nutrition. Families enjoyed playing basketball with the Drexel University men’s basketball team, golf instruction with golf pros from the Golf Academy, fitness training tips from The Philadelphia Aquatic and Fitness Club in Bala Cynwyd, chair massages from Independence Blue Cross, music provided by WDAS Radio and Patty Jackson, and plenty of healthy, tasty food and drink. A highlight of the day came when Ginsberg and his partner, urologist doctor Larry Belkoff, presented the donation to Prostate Heath International. Food and drinks were provided by Houlihan’s, Whole Foods, Aunt Burta’s Kitchen and Shalom Catering. Other special guests included men’s basketball coach, Phil Martelli from Saint Joseph’s University.
